Job Description

Core of the job the nurse performs care tasks in the nursing home, care home and with the client (care recipient) at home where the self-reliance of the client is stimulated as much as possible. The nature, scope and frequency of the work activities are subject to change.

Descriptive summary

The nursing / caring has the objective to maintain and improve the self-reliance of the clients as much as possible, in the home / residence situation within the context of the nursing and caring tasks. The care request of the client can be related to nursing, caring, medical technical actions and guidance with coming to terms with the disease process. The care request of the client group is usually moderate to very complex and strongly subject to change. The nurse works in all clients’ situations; the nurse is often the first responsible person in very complex situations.

Main tasks

1. Support the care recipient with personal basic care

2. Guidance of the care recipient with psychosocial issues and meaningfulness

3. Support the care recipient and family carer with conducting control over one’s own life (self-management)

4. Technical nursing actions

5. Apply prevention by giving information, advice and instruction

Job requirements - Skills/responsibilities Knowledge:  

Has completed higher vocational or nursing training or nursing training at qualification level 4 and is BIG-registered.  Keeps informed about required knowledge level (profession and focus areas) and developments in the field of nursing. Acquires insight in the social map and maintains this.

Independency:  

Works independently, conforms the protocols and guidelines stipulated by the institution. Organizes the own work and is able to solve not every day problems in the client care independently.  Relies on knowledge within the team or the supervisor with complex situations.

Social skills: 

When encouraging willingness to change with clients, conducting bad news conversations and guiding clients and family carers, features like tact, ability to listen, respect, empathy and patience are important.  Is able to convince, stimulate and motivate patients with their self-care and with the application of structure, can deal with resistance and has perseverance with this. Can give and receive feedback within the team, can reflect on own actions and can deal with conflicts. Can cooperate with other disciplines, both inside as outside the organization.

Risks, responsibilities and influence:

There is a risk of causing physical/mental injury or material damage during the performance of the work activities at/with the client. During consultation meetings, the nurse has the opportunity to use influence on decision making regarding the care provision and the policy of the unit.

Expression skill:

Good verbal expression skill is required when dealing with clients, family and family carers, colleagues and other disciplines. Good written expression skill is important when drawing up and maintaining nursing and caring plans, recording of data and transfers. * you speak English intermediate. * you are prepared to follow a Dutch language course in Thessaloniki for 6 months.
