Nurseries of the Greek Public Employment Service
The operation of the 26 privately owned Nurseries of the Greek Public Employment Service (DYPA) is another action aimed at supporting employees and their families. The purpose of the Public Service is through preschool education to provide the conditions for happy children who will in the future become active, thinking citizens.
The operation program of the nurseries of the Greek Public Employment Service contributes to the wider national work in the field of preschool education and at the same time supports the families of employees with the aim of the smooth development of their children, through appropriate conditions of care and education. The operation of DYPA nurseries complies with high standards, especially in terms of safety, cleanliness, educational programs but also in terms of staff training.
From the Nurseries of DYPA, 8 operate within the boundaries of the Attica Prefecture and 18 in large provincial cities and in municipalities with a large workforce.
In Attica there are nurseries in the Municipalities of: Agia Varvara, Ano Liosia, Elefsina, Keratsini, Menidi, Moschato, Olympic Village and Peristeri.
In the rest of Greece there are nurseries in the cities of Agrinio, Arta, Drama, Igoumenitsa, Ioannina, Kavala, Kalamata, Karditsa, Karpenisi, Komotini, Larissa, Mesologi, Naoussa, Xanthi, Patras, Pyla Thessaloniki, Serres and Trikala.
In the kindergartens of the Greek Public Employment Service, special emphasis is placed on the smooth development of young children (physical and mental health), taking into account the findings of sciences such as psychology, medicine and pedagogy.
The pedagogical programs aim at eliminating the differences that may arise from the cultural, economic and educational level of their parents and the smooth transition of young children from the family to the school environment.
Also, young children with the guidance of experienced pedagogical staff are trained towards the adoption of health-promoting choices and indirectly the rest of the family members are trained through organized parental gatherings and announcements, even through daily discussions with parents.
The Nursery Schools of the Greek Public Employment Service are addressed to children whose parents or guardians are beneficiaries of the subsidies of DYPA.
Infants from 6 months and infants from 2.5 years of age are accepted until their enrolment in Compulsory Education. The criteria for selecting the children of the beneficiaries are socio-economic. That is, the children of large families and single-parent families, orphaned children, children of disabled parents, etc. preceded and the children of the economically weaker beneficiary parents followed in priority.
The childcare of infants – toddlers is free (reciprocal program to beneficiaries).
The Nurseries operate in privately owned buildings and comply with all modern safety, hygiene and functionality standards of pre-school facilities. Their logistical equipment is in line with the data of modern pedagogy and serves the pedagogical programs and events in these areas.
Infants from 6 months and infants from 2.5 years old are accepted until their enrolment in Compulsory Education.
The hosting of infants – toddlers is free (reciprocal program for beneficiaries).
The nurseries operate from September to July from 6.45 to 16.00 while in August they remain closed.
All operating expenses of the Nursery Schools are covered by the budget of the Greek Public Employment Service.
There is a continuous effort for the institution to improve the services it provides and to meet modern requirements. Inthis direction, DYPA takes care of:
- The staffing with qualified personnel, of all the necessary categories, as well as their training.
- Adoption of appropriate hygiene and safety options.
- The pedagogical design according to the rules of modern education.
- The implementation of pilot education programs (educational walks, action plans around intercultural education, workshops, etc.).
- Collaboration with a pediatrician and dietary training according to the needs of childhood. The provision of free food, following strict qualitative and quantitative criteria (breakfast and lunch every day).
- The food is prepared daily in the care centers.
- Ordinary briefing with parent meetings and joint actions with parents.
- The appropriateness of the classrooms and the strict observance of the proportion of children – educators.
- Maintenance and continuous upgrading of modern building infrastructure and standard logistical equipment.
