European award for DYPA’s 2nd Apprenticeship Vocational School (EPAS) of Thessaloniki within the context of the CEDEFOP Video Award 2023 competition
The "Patch(re)work" video of the Textile-Clothing students’ “Patchwork Project Team” from DYPA’s 2nd Apprenticeship Vocational School (EPAS) of Thessaloniki, was placed second in the CEDEFOP Video Award 2023 competition, held as part of the European Year of Skills.
Organized by the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP), the competition brought together 30 teams from 7 EU countries, comprising 117 students and teachers that represented 18 Vocational Education and Training (VET) institutions.
The students were required to apply the skills and competences taught at DYPA’s Apprenticeship Vocational Schools in order to demonstrate the usefulness of recycling both for the environment and the correct use of raw materials.
The award will be officially granted on 8 March 2024, at a special event organized by CEDEFOP within the context of the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, where the videos are also to be screened.
The “Nature is our Life” team of Cosmetology students from DYPA’s 2nd Apprenticeship Vocational School of Thessaloniki also participated in the CEDEFOP Video Award 2023 competition, using “Body Painting” skills to place emphasis on the issue of forest destruction and its negative impact on the environment.
Each year, student teams from DYPA’s EPAS and Vocational Training Institutes (IEK) participate in events and competitions at both the national and European levels, promoting and highlighting the occupational and social skills of the schools’ apprentices, students and teachers.
DYPA’s Governor and National Skills Coordinator, Spiros Protopsaltis, said: “Congratulations to the project team of Textile-Clothing students and teachers from DYPA’s 2nd Apprenticeship Vocational School (EPAS) of Thessaloniki on both the European award they won and their creative idea and collaboration. I would also like to congratulate the Cosmetology project team from the same school on taking part in the same competition. The awards and participation of EPAS students from around Greece in national and European competitions and actions, clearly reflect the constructive work performed by DYPA’s teachers and staff in the crucial area of Vocational Education and Training. The serious work of DYPA’s educational units provides students with all the skills and qualifications required so that they can be well prepared to claim the job they are interested in and fulfil their career aspirations”.
