Over 200,000 people have benefited from DYPA’s Employment Programmes
Over the past five years, the Greek Public Employment Service, DYPA, has implemented more than 50 employment programmes: 28 New Job Creation Programmes; 11 Work Experience / Pre-work Programmes; 6 Programmes for New Entrepreneurs; and 6 Special Programmes. Of these, 40 were new programmes for over 95,000 new jobs, over 67,000 pre-work and work experience placements, and nearly 30,000 special programme jobs; additionally, over 27,000 new entrepreneurs were subsidised.
Through the implementation of all the aforementioned employment programmes, a total of 180,053 unemployed individuals were hired and 21,186 business plans were approved. Thus, the total number of beneficiaries reached 201,239.
It is noteworthy that the largest percentage of beneficiaries are secondary education graduates, reaching 42%, followed by higher education graduates, with 30%. Overall, the total percentage of secondary, post-secondary, and higher education graduates is about 83%.
It is also to be noted that 60% of beneficiaries had been unemployed for up to 11 months. Long-term unemployment was slightly higher among women (41%) than men (38%). Beneficiaries under 29 years of age were mostly non-long term unemployed (non-LTU) (84%), while beneficiaries aged 55+ were primarily LTU (75%). The average duration of unemployment among beneficiaries was 16 full months.
Minister of Labour and Social Security, Niki Kerameus, stated:
"DYPA’s employment programmes play a key role in boosting employment, supporting the unemployed in Greece and motivating them to find work. These programmes tangibly demonstrate the government’s commitment to providing substantial solutions with the aim of reducing unemployment and further strengthening social cohesion. Constant monitoring and adaptation of these programmes to labour market needs enable us to effectively respond to labour market challenges. Far from resting on our laurels, we continuously redouble our efforts to reinforce employment."
DYPA Governor Spiros Protopsaltis stated: "The record number of hirings accomplished through DYPA programmes clearly shows that our focus on Active Labour Market Policies has yielded results, significantly contributing to the halving of the unemployment rate over the past five years. DYPA has become an organization that effectively helps the unemployed find jobs and businesses find employees. Of course, there is still much work to be done. This is why we are planning new, even more targeted measures for the coming months, aiming to create thousands of new jobs by investing in our country’s human capital. DYPA is changing by building trustful relations with businesses and focusing on the actual needs of the labour market."
