Women in Tech: DYPA and HUAWEI expand their cooperation on women's employment and reducing the digital divide

The expansion of the DYPA - Huawei cooperation was officially sealed at a recent special event held in Thessaloniki, in the presence of the Governor of the Greek Public Employment Service (DYPA), Dr. Spiros Protopsaltis, and the Senior Vice President of Huawei Europe, Ms Selina Wen.

Through the launching of a second phase of the "Women in Tech" programme, the expanded co-operation of DYPA with the technology corporation Huawei is aimed at upskilling the labour force, especially unemployed women, and reduce the digital divide in our Greece.

Closely following labour market needs, current trends in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and the "Digital Decade" targets set by the EU for 2030, DYPA is taking initiatives to reinforce the digital maturity of citizens, in order to support their placement in quality jobs and expand the talent pool for businesses facing difficulties in finding appropriately skilled employees.

The programme, scheduled to be presently implemented, will be addressed to 500 unemployed women and will include the thematic modules of "Basic Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills" and "Soft Skills".

The Governor of DYPA, Dr. Spiros Protopsaltis, stated: "Two out of three unemployed persons are women. DYPA is constantly investing in new, targeted measures for their reintegration into employment. The new phase of our “Women in Tech” programme with Huawei is part of this effort. Our aim is to implement programmes that empower unemployed women through upskilling and prepare them for employment opportunities in high-demand occupational sectors. The "Women in Tech" programme will open up new employment prospects for the 500 women who will have the opportunity to upgrade their digital skills and enrich their CVs with knowledge that is sought after by companies in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. DYPA continues working with big tech companies to reduce the digital divide and meet the needs of businesses for appropriately skilled employees".

Senior Vice President of Huawei Europe, Ms Selina Wen, said: "Huawei has been active in Greece for 20 years. Committed to the motto “In Greece for Greece”, we also contribute to the further development of the Greek society. For Huawei, talent incubation has always been the most important social project. Building on last year’s successful cooperation with DYPA, we optimised the course design and enhanced the programme. Indeed, we believe that this year’s “Women in Tech” reskilling and upskilling programme will encourage women to advance their career as talented employees. We are convinced that Huawei’s initiative will inspire more and more women to pursuit their employment goals and achieve success. Let us work together to create a brighter, better future for Greece, a place where every woman will have the opportunity to thrive in the digital age."
